As a Board Director, you’ll contribute to advancing QueerTech’s mission to break down barriers, create inclusive spaces, and connect communities across Canada’s tech ecosystem.

The Process
Submit Your Application & Conflict of Interest Declaration: Please complete your application and the Conflict of Interest Declaration by July 4, 2025.
Review and Selection by the Talent & Culture Committee: Applications will be reviewed by our Talent & Culture Committee, which will assess candidates based on skills, experience, and alignment with QueerTech’s mission and values.
Interviews: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in an interview and will be required to complete a conflict of interest declaration.
Notification of Selection: Successful candidates will be notified in early August 2025.
Onboarding Session: An onboarding session for new board members will be held in August 2025 to prepare you for your role and responsibilities.
First Board Meeting: Your first official Board meeting will be held virtually on September 23, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET.
Eligibility & Commitments
QueerTech Board positions are leadership-level commitments. We’re seeking individuals who:
Have a solid understanding of board governance, fiduciary duties, and nonprofit leadership.
We are committed to upholding QueerTech’s mission, values, and safer spaces policies.
Time Commitment:
Quarterly Board Meetings: Four times a year for 2 hours each (usually 3 PM to 5 PM ET). Board meetings are scheduled 6 to 12 months in advance.
Committee Participation: Every board member is required to participate in at least one committee.
Committees meet monthly.
Board members host one meetup per year
Attend an ecosystem or 2SLGBTQ+ event to represent QueerTech
Board members must attend the QT Qonference
Ongoing Workload:
Expect to dedicate an average of 1 to 2 hours per week to reading, preparation, and contributions.
This will vary — some weeks may be light, while the weeks leading up to a board or committee meeting will require additional time for designing, developing, or reviewing materials.
This is a volunteer leadership role with no financial compensation.

Do I need prior board experience to be eligible for this position?Prior board experience is preferred but not required. QueerTech is a young and growing organization, and we are seeking board members with expertise in governance and experience in board leadership. However, we encourage passionate leaders with relevant experience in other areas to apply.
Is this a volunteer position?Yes. This is a volunteer leadership role. There is no financial compensation; however, reasonable expenses directly related to your board duties (e.g., accessibility supports) may be reimbursed, depending on the organization's financial health. Board members may be asked to cover their own travel expenses for in-person meetings if QueerTech is not in a financial position to fund them.
How long is the term for board members?Board members serve a two-year term, with the possibility of renewal for a second term based on mutual interest and the evolving needs of the Board.
Will there be in-person meetings?Most Board meetings are held virtually. However, Board members should have the ability to travel for strategic meetings and key QueerTech events, such as the QT Qonference.This year’s QT Qonference will take place during the third week of October 2025 in Calgary.
What if I don’t meet every skill listed?We strongly encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every listed skill. QueerTech values diverse experiences and perspectives, and our Talent & Culture Committee reviews candidates holistically, considering each individual beyond any checklist.
Is there support for accessibility needs?While QueerTech is a small organization with limited formal accessibility resources, we are committed to inclusive participation.
